Mt. Gulugod Baboy : The Panoramic Peak

I missed writing as well as mountaineering, it’s been quite some time since my last trekking and about a month now since the last time I've posted an outdoor adventure.

I was browsing my laptop and saw my “Mt. Gulugod Baboy” Album. I’ve scanned and reminisced the photos and I ended up smiling.

THE STORY:
It was early January of 2012 when we’ve conquered the Peak of Mt. Gulugod Baboy in Anilao, Mabini, Batangas. It stood at 525 feet and beneath the mountain is the famous diving spot of the said province. The group was set for an overnight stay in the summit to unwind and update each others.

Saturday morning, we’re all gathered at a Fast-food chain near Gil Puyat, LRT Station. 10 young wanderers answered the invitation of Sir Paul “Herms” Egonia. I belong to the 7 regular hikers and the remaining three recruits are new in exploring the mountain, Paul’s classmate in one of his major subject in Adamson.

We've ride a bus bound to Batangas City Terminal approximately 2 hours travel. When we’ve reached the terminal, Paul communicated with tricycle drivers and agreed to charter their vehicle bound to Philpan Diving Resort, jump-off point of our hiking activity. If my memory serves me right we paid 60 pesos each, you can also rent jeepney’s if you’re travelling with more than 10 people.

GOING BACK: Since its lunch time we took the opportunity to eat and rest for a while, there’s a restaurant in the area overlooking the sea of Anilao. Refreshing

Around 3 o’clock in the afternoon we've started our trekking suddenly Aizel felt dizziness I personally extend my help by carrying her bag while Arem assisting her while she walks.
To be honest, this was my easiest climb to date just before sunset we've reached the top. Fascinating! Panoramic view, I’ve seen “El Sombrero Island” from a distance and the vast land and towering mountains of Mabini and neighboring provinces of Batangas.

Where ever I glare, my eyes were filled with so much wonder of nature.

Trivia: I’ve just heard and read stories from friends and bloggers that they called Gulugod Baboy the “Lovers Peak”, maybe because of its romantic appeal and panoramic sceneries most specially during sunset.

It’s windy when we arrived and we set up our tent in an area opposite the direction of the wind. We cooked and shared out our foods and afterwards we played Pinoy Henyo and UNO Cards. We had so much fun till we’re exhausted. We've called it a day and stayed in our assigned tents. I’m with Aizel and Arem while Paul with his classmates. The two couples had their own tents, Edward and Paula, Julius and Gladys.

We woke up early in the morning, packed up our tents and belongings and immediately proceed in our trek. Our next agenda would be swimming in the beach. We’re just so excited to swim.

Upon our arrival in the resort [Philpan Diving Resort] we paid 20 pesos for the entrance fee and 300 pesos for the cottage. We immediately prepared our Brunch while the others played cards.

No sands just pebbles and we enjoyed the company of each other. That’s the last time I saw Sir Paul and talked to him personally. I missed his company, things are bit different now but I’m hoping to be reunited with him and with the other member of the KASAMA for future climb and “happy moment”.

Around 5 o’clock in the afternoon we decided to call it a day. We’re all off to Manila. We've asked the tricycle driver to drop off us in the Terminal of bus [bound to Manila] and just in time arrived in our home safe and sound.

NOTE: If you’re into diving this place is the nearest and perfect spot for sea exploration.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Just missing the ambiance on the top of the Mountain.
